Is Sharia Law what makes Islam so violent and oppressive, more than the Qur'an itself?

Sharia Law is Based on the OLd Testament where God was a no nonsense God except the law went beyond that. Men can beat there wives for any reason, an eye for an eye, hands cut off for stealing, public whipping for gamblers and drinkers, robbers should be crucified or ls must be executed, fornicators should be beheaded then stoned to death.
