Can you stud stretchy clothing?

Basically i am going out dressed as Lady Gaga for my birthday and want to stud high waisted 'control-pant' stretchy knickers. Bit worried in case the studs just rip the clothing when i put the item on. Can anybody please give me any advice on studding clothing like this?
