Kindergarten sight words?
I am a little confused about this website/blog. I wanted to follow up on a question that I saw about sight words as a beginning reading method. I don't really remember how I learned to read, but my parents learned with Dick and Jane. This was basically a sight word book. More recently, my own daughter brought home a list of sight words with flash cards. We were supposed to teach her 10 words per week until she knew all of the words. I tried this method for days with dismal results. A friend of mine suggested a book that she was using . The book is called I CAN READ NOW! AN EASY SIGHT WORD READER and is published by Banyon Circle Publishing. Their website is: www.get.banyoncirclebooks.com Well, I bought the book and was amazed. My daughter began reading in seconds and after about a week and a half is now reading chapter books by herself. This book has really cute illustrations, but the method is what makes it work. My daughter really loved the book, and now we are working with her brother. He loves the book too, and is almost done with it. Chapter books here he comes! This book cost twenty dollars plus tax and shipping - but it was well worth it! I tell all of my friends about it and they are or have had the same kind of success.
